This guide covers the practical handling basics — how peptides are supplied, how to store them before and after mixing, and how to reconstitute them cleanly. Lyophilized vs. reconstituted peptides
Most research peptides ship lyophilized — freeze-dried into a stable powder inside a sealed vial. In this dry state they are far more stable and tolerate short periods at room temperature, which is why they can be shipped safely.
Once you add liquid, the peptide becomes reconstituted (a solution). Reconstituted peptides are much more delicate and have a far shorter usable life, so mixing is usually done only when needed.
Storing peptides before reconstitution
For lyophilized (unmixed) vials:
- Refrigerated (2–8°C): ideal for medium-term storage; keeps the powder stable for months.
- Freezer (−20°C or colder): best for long-term storage.
- Room temperature: acceptable only briefly, such as during shipping. Return vials to the fridge or freezer on arrival.
- Keep vials away from light and sealed in their original packaging until use.
How to reconstitute a peptide
Reconstitution simply means adding a sterile diluent — usually bacteriostatic water — to the powder. The key is to be gentle and clean:
- Let both the vial and the water reach room temperature.
- Wipe both rubber stoppers with an alcohol swab.
- Draw your chosen volume of bacteriostatic water into a sterile syringe.
- Insert the needle at an angle and let the water run slowly down the inside wall of the vial — never squirt it directly onto the powder.
- Do not shake. Swirl gently or let it sit until the powder fully dissolves. Shaking can damage delicate peptide chains and cause foaming.

Storing peptides after reconstitution
Once mixed, keep the solution refrigerated at 2–8°C and protected from light.
